Most people associate hard pike/musky baits without built in action with the
word jerkbait, but there also exists a class of soft bait called by this name.
Both have in common, that they don't have a built in action but come to life
through small jerks of the rod tip. Then they dart from side to side like small
feeding fish or, if you present them even slower, like dying fish. The best way
to fish them is unweighted with a simple hook, but you can also mount them on a
Carolina rig to fish them in deeper water. As they don't run very deep on their
own, they are best fished above weed beds and in all situations where you expect
predators to feed near the surface: under overhanging trees, near jetties, etc.
Apart from black bass I have also once caught a really big rudd on them.
