The shad, or gummifish (from the German "Gummifisch"= rubber fish), is a
pretty straight forward imitation of a baitfish. It is used similar to a grub,
but needs a little more speed for the perfect action. It is an extremely good
lure for zander and pike, but I've also caught chub with it. It is well suited
to be mounted on a jig head or a system. The tail should be almost rectangular
to the body, the model shown is just within the limit, but by no ways ideal. I
prefer the simple black/pearl white variants and rather stay away from the very
bright colours although red/pearl and various shades of green to chartreuse can
also be very good.
